Creating & Visualizing Great Places
William Block Art & Architecture
Trained as an architect interested in place, William Block has always sketched his way through the design concepts he has created. He is most interested in how we experience and feel in the spaces we inhabit. In his work we see places as stage sets, backgrounds to enhance our lives.
Concepts, Illustrations & Animated Stories
He creates design concepts then visualizes them: for city agencies, architects, urban designers and entertainment industry companies. He illustrates existing environments: cities, towns and buildings and also creates animated stories about place based on his drawings.
Concepts of Place
Creating architectural townscapes full of life and character William Block takes the audience on journeys through great places for people. He uses hand drawing and the computer to help develop hist work. His drawings portray an impression of place, one that includes the audience to let them feel, interpret and be a part of the process.
City Illustrations
Here are some drawings of American and European towns and buildings. William has lived in and drawn hill town villages in Southern France, in Somerset, UK and has done a series of drawings and animations of great train stations from all over the world.
His work can show us how places grow and evolve over time. Creating both still art work as well as animated videos he engages an audience and describes a story.
Animated Stories
Stories are generated to take an audience to a place through illustrations, sound and movement. The animations help engage a viewer to see, feel and experience.
The stories can be developed to help explain a new project, a change in time: how a place has grown and changed and how we might develop it in the future. It tells a story of our past, present and future. There are many different uses for the animated stories. They can move, teach and entertain.
William Block Architect
William Block is an architect and artist who has lived between America and France. He has worked with architectural and urban design companies, has consulted with cities developing townscape concepts in the US and France, and has worked creating stories and places with entertainment industry companies like Walt Disney Imagineering and Universal Studios.
He starts his design concepts drawing by hand, then imports into the computer to help model and study form and scale, then goes back to hand drawing to develop character. His work shows impressions of place at initial concept development, where an audience is able to interact with their own ideas and feelings to help shape how a place might be, as part of a design process, as a team experience to create wonderful places with charm and character.
